You need this sweet and juicy peach margarita! It’s frosty cold and deliciously balanced with ripe peaches, grassy tequila, and a splash of tart lime. Blend it up for a frozen margarita or use a peach puree for a flavor-packed margarita on the rocks.
why I love it:
Is there anything more summery than a juicy peach margarita? Seasonal cocktails are one of our favorite ways to celebrate the season and this one doesn't disappoint!
It's sweet, flavorful, icy cold, and balanced with just enough blanco tequila and zesty lime to quench your thirst. You can make this peach margarita on the rocks, or toss everything in a blender for a frosty and decadent treat.
Best of all, the recipe is crazy versatile and forgiving. Double it for a group or store extra in the freezer and tap into the sorbet-like treat whenever your craving hits.
Swap in white peaches for a delicate floral version with a gorgeous blush color. Use hot honey for a sweet kick, or make a full-blown spicy peach margarita by tossing in a chopped green chile. Go sweet with a cinnamon sugar rim or exotic with a smoked salt rim. The possibilities are endless and so exciting.
As always, I share all sorts of adaptations below to inspire you to use what you have and make what you love. Use this recipe as a springboard for your own creativity!
frozen peach margarita ingredients:
- peaches
- blanco tequila
- cointreau
- lime
- simple syrup
- ice
how to make a frozen peach margarita:
- Rim margarita glasses with salt; set aside.
- Peel and chop fresh peaches or use frozen peaches.
- Blend smooth with tequila, cointreau, lime juice, and simple syrup.
- Add ice and blend until frosty.
- Pour into glasses and enjoy.
peach juice vs peach nectar vs peach puree:
You can make this margarita recipe with peach juice, peach nectar, or peach puree. It all comes down to flavor. I prefer making my own peach puree for the best flavor, but the next best option is peach juice. Read below for a breakdown:
Pure peach juice is delicious but hard to find. For the sake of availability, look for a peach juice blend. This will be 100% juice without added sugar. The base is usually pear or apple juice, and peach puree is added for color and flavor.
Use peach nectar as a last result. Canned fruit nectars have very little fruit juice and are made with high fructose corn syrup and sometimes even artificial sweeteners. They taste tinny and fake, and aren’t a good option for the base flavor of your delicious margarita.
Fresh peach puree. If you’ve got fresh peaches, time, and the desire for the best-tasting peach margarita, this option is for you.
- Use the juiciest, most fragrant fresh peaches you can find.
- Peel them and chop the flesh off the pit.
- Blend 1 cup chopped fresh peaches with 1 cup water until very smooth.
- Use it 1:1 in the “peach margarita on the rocks” recipe below.
- Taste the margarita and add more lime or simple syrup depending on the sugar/ acid balance of your peaches.
Make it a pitcher!
This pitcher recipe will serve 8:
- 2 cups peach juice (or fresh peach puree)
- 1 ½ cups blanco tequila
- ½ cup fresh squeezed lime juice
- ½ cup simple syrup
Mix everything in a large pitcher and keep it chilled in the fridge. When ready to serve, salt the rims of your margarita glasses and fill them with ice. Pour in the margarita mix and enjoy!
Note: Scaling up cocktails is more of an art than a science. When we shake a margarita with ice, a small amount of dilution occurs that isn’t present in the large batch. So taste the final version and if it's too boozy, mix in 2 oz water or extra peach juice to compensate (equal to an extra ¼ oz per serving). Chill it really well in the fridge, then rebalance it with a touch more water, juice, or simple syrup when cold, if needed.
Make this recipe your own:
Peach margarita flavor variations:
- Coconut peach: Add 2 oz of coconut milk to the blended margarita for a creamy, tropical flavor.
- Cucumber peach: Add ½ cup cucumber to the blended recipe or muddle a few slices in the rock version.
- Ginger peach: Make a ginger simple syrup and use it instead of the standard simple syrup.
- Spicy peach: Muddle 1 sliced jalapeno in the bottom of the cocktail shaker, or blend it in with the frozen mango! Keep the seeds for the most heat.
- Use a habanero if you really want heat!
- Mixed fruit: Substitute 1 cup of peaches for fresh pineapple, strawberries, raspberries, or mango chunks. Or use a fruit juice blend for more flavor versions on the rocks.
- Top with a float: Extra añejo tequila or Grand Marnier can add an indulgent spin!
- Fresh herbs: Muddle fresh mint or basil in the bottom of the cocktail shaker (for the rocks version).
Salt rim variations:
- Cinnamon sugar salt: mix 2 tbsp kosher salt + 2 tbsp sugar + 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- Vanilla bean salt: scrape seeds from ½ of a vanilla bean and use your fingers to mix them into ¼ cup kosher salt.
- Lime salt: grind up ¼ cup kosher salt with zest of 1 lime (mortar and pestle is best here)
- Chili salt: ¼ cup kosher salt + 1 tsp chili powder
- Smoked salt: adds a complex smoky note!
- Edible flower salt: ¼ cup kosher salt + 1 tbsp dried edible flowers
- Ginger sugar: ¼ cup turbinado sugar + 1 tbsp finely grated ginger, dehydrate or bake at 200°F until dry, then break up with mortar and pestle
